The present publication is the result of work of the e-metodologia research team which consists of academic teachers as well as students and postgraduate students interested in problems of methodology. For some of them participation in this volume constitutes a scientific writing debut. This is the team’s second project dedicated to research of cyberspace. The book that was the result of the first project was entitled Methods and Techniques of Cyberspace Research. Theory and Practice and it was published in 2011. The Qualitative Content Analysis in Research Conducted in Cyberspace monograph is dedicated to research carried out on the internet using the content analysis method.

The publication begins with two theoretical chapters – the article by Jacek Gulanowski on the subject of qualitative and quantitative content analyses and the article by Aleksander Kobylarek presenting content analysis from the perspective of the interpretative paradigm. The remaining chapters constitute illustrations of research in which the stages of research, employment of methods, and difficulties and opportunities related to the analysis of content in cyberspace are presented. Thanks to the variety of research problems and the analysed material the authors were able to show numerous details connected with the used method. The research was conducted in such areas as internet forums (Ewa Jurczyk-Romanowska, Aleksandra Marcinkiewicz), online art galleries (Wioletta Chmielewska), blogs (Luba Jakubowska; Adam Chamera); and news portals (Kamil Błaszczyczyński). In most cases the authors concentrated on the analysis of texts – in the broad understanding of the term – that is, articles, comments, and posts, although images such as photos (L. Jakubowska), works of art (W. Chmielewska), comic panels (Jacek Gulanowski), posters and illustrations (Adam Chamera) were also analysed. The book should be of interest to academic teachers lecturing on subjects connected with the methodology of research in the social sciences, thesis supervisors, and all those concerned with research in cyberspace.
